Workshop on Biorefinery organised by Abengoa Bioenergía Nuevas Tecnologías in collaboration with Foundation Genoma España and Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving
Abengoa Bioenergía Nuevas Tecnologías, which is subsidiary of Abengoa Bioenergy, world leader in the production of biofuels and the development of innovative technological solutions that contribute to sustainable development of the transportation sector,
Genoma España, which is a non-profit organization dependant on the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Health whose aim is to promote research and development on Genomics and Proteomics in order to improve health and life quality,
and Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, which is a public body dependant on the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade whose aim is to promote energetic efficiency and strategies for energy saving,
are organising an International Workshop on Biorefinery whose main objectives are:
- General review of the state-of-the-art of different technologies on Biorefinery
- Identification of new opportunities for the biofuel sector
- Analysis of perspectives for the development of the Biorefinery business in a short/medium/long term, and
- Evaluation of incentives in terms of financing of new projects, regulatory aspects and sustainability.
The event, which is co-organised and sponsored by CIEMAT – Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology Research through the Singular and Strategic Project “On Cultivos” of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology, will be held on the 22nd June 2009 at the Spanish Ministry of Industry in Madrid and about 200 people are expected to attend the Workshop.
The structure of the Workshop consists of a series of working groups that are composed of a panel of experts and a chairman. Each working group is devoted to each step composing a biorefinery process, from obtaining raw material, with special attention to algae and energy crops biomass, to bio-based products synthesis, including different biochemical and thermochemical biomass conversion processes. An interactive debate about the topic of the working group, previously introduced by the chairman, will take place between the members of the group and the attendees. Furthermore, a round table meeting is included with the aim of evaluating incentives for the development of Biorefinery business in terms of financing of new projects, regulation and sustainability issues, as well as a special session on one of the most important projects of biorefinery supported by the European Commission through its 6th Framework Programme: Biosynergy.
Attached is the draft programme, which counts on the participation of well-known experts in each working area.
